Criteria
- Projects must benefit women and children. Consideration will also be given to the disabled
- 75% of the beneficiaries must be black (including Coloured, Indian, etc.)
- The NGO/NPO must be properly constituted and registered with the NPO directorate.
- Ideally organisations must also be registered with the SARS and be able to produce a PBO number.
- The organisation must be able to produce independently audited financial statements.
- Projects must meet real needs, not wants (backed up by feasibility study or needs analysis)
- Projects must be of a capacity building nature
- Clearly defined outcomes must be identified
- A system of evaluation must be incorporated
- A clear budget must be available (a maximum of 5% of funding may be used for administrative purposes)
- Project funding is provided for 1–3 years depending on the nature of the project
What don’t we fund?
- Individuals who are looking for donations of sponsorship
- Political organisations/individuals
- Community Based Organisations - directly
- Religious organisations except those with a social service programme that operates separately from the Religious organisation. The programme must have its own NPO/NGO number, and must have its own mission statement.
- Commercial ventures like sponsorships, e.g. sporting tours or events, conferences, exhibitions or cultural events
- Corporate tables at special events
- Paid advertisements in social investment publications, charity brochures, event programmes or general fundraising printed material for events such as fundraising dinners or golf days
- Profit making organisations, such as closed corporations or companies
- Endowment funds
- Requests for bursaries
- Projects that fall outside the focus areas
- The Foschini Group CSI programme does not provide gift vouchers or supply free product as giveaways, prizes or gift items.
Deadline for funding applications
We are no longer accepting applications for funding for the financial year 2009/10.
Please note that the deadline for applications for 2010 is the 31 March 2010. Proposals are evaluated during the month after the deadline month and processed during the two months thereafter. Consequently, no late applications are considered.
Charity Clothing
As of 1 April 2009, the Foschini Group no longer donates its charity clothing to organisations on a monthly basis.
The charity clothing will instead be utilised as part of a new Skills Development project that the Foschini Group, CSI department has developed with an organisation called Learn to Earn. For more details on what, how and when, click here
